For one reason, people who want to become your affiliates likely have interest in the same products and industry that you do. Your affiliates will likely spread the word to them, which will likely lead to them coming to your site and checking out your product offer.

To gain targeted traffic to your website, it’s vital that you get the word out about your product offers as much as possible. However, even if you work tirelessly 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, do you really think you’ll be able to reach your entire target market on the Internet yourself? Certainly the answer is “no.”
For one thing, virtually no one works 24 hours a day every day; after all, we are not robots. We need to eat, sleep, be with other people, and take time out for ourselves, etc. But even if you work 16, 18, or even 20 hours a day, you yourself still won’t reach your entire target market - that’s how large the market is online. It encompasses the entire world, not just your backyard or even your own country.
Therefore, what can you do to capture more of your target market, as capturing more of your target market will lead to more sales, and consequently, more profits? Have other people spread the word about your product offers!
You can create your own affiliate program that will employ other people to advertise your product offers and spread the word about your company. This is advantageous for because there will be more than just you promoting your own products/services, while it will also be advantageous for them because they will earn a percentage of every sale they make (usually over 50%).
